If you ever experience flat and lifeless hair, the chances are you have thin and fine hair. Fine hair has its benefits and downfalls. It often requires little blow-drying, easy to style and has a natural silky and smooth look. But the downsides, fine hair is more dedicate than other hair types, it can be difficult to hold curls or add natural-looking volume.

Fine hair is genetic, you cannot change the size of your follicles. But as long as you find what works for you, with a few hair care tips and products, your hair can rise to the occasion!

How do you keep fine hair healthy?

There are some care tips that would help you to avoid damaging your fine and thin hair and keep it looking healthy.

Tip #1: Don’t rub your hair when drying with a towel

Keep in mind that your thin hair is very susceptible after showering. With that reason, rubbing your fine hair while it is wet can cause breakages.

Instead, pat the moisture out of your hair with a water-absorbing microfiber towel to avoid roughing up the cuticle.

Tip #2: Blow dry your hair upside down

The secret of a great blow dry is to start at the root. Dry your roots with your hair upside down helps add volume to your hair body. It works even better if you use a round brush while blow drying.

Tip #3: Don’t overuse heat styling tool

Fine hair has the most dedicate and fragile hair texture. Whenever possible, let your hair air dry instead of using your hair dryer. Remember to apply heat protectants when styling your hair and use a low temperature to prevent heat damage and split ends.

Tip #4: Let your hair cool before brushing out

After using heat to style your hair, let it cool down completely before brushing it. This prevents your hair from falling flat.

Tip #5: Never apply conditioner on your scalp

Apply moisturising product near the roots will weight your hair down and makes it look flat. It also makes the hair oily faster. The right way to apply conditioner is focusing only from the mid-length to the ends of your hair and try to minimum the amount.

Tip #6: Avoid oil-based styling product

Your fine hair gets all the nourishing from oil-based styling hair products as much as other hair types. However, just as conditioner, these products can weigh your hair down and makes it look flat and greasy. Choose styling products that offer texture and hold to give a thicker appearance to your hair.

What products are good for your fine hair?
